Opener Peter Fulton went past 50 but at 61 he jabbed at a short ball from seamer Darren Sammy and was caught at second slip by Kirk Edwards.
Fulton has now scored 590 runs this calendar year, at an average of 45.38, behind only England skipper Alastair Cook, who has hit 762 runs, but Fulton has a superior average than Cook's 36.28, and in eight fewer innings.
Taylor had a scare on two, when he parried a sharp lifter from Best which lobbed just over the despairing dives of second and third slip fielders.
But he produced some handsome drives and looked reasonable form.
Shane Shillingford has taken one for 31 off 15 tidy overs, Best one for 46 off 13, and Sammy one for 43 off 13.
