Cricket: Will the Black Caps visit Pakistan this year?

New Zealand Cricket is investigating whether it is safe to send the Black Caps to Pakistan later this year.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has asked the governing body to play the Twenty20 component of the series in the country.

New Zealand's current tour, which also includes one-day internationals and tests, is scheduled for October and November in the United Arab Emirates.

The ODIs and tests will remain in the UAE, regardless.

New Zealand last played in Pakistan during 2003 with a ODI series.

The tour the previous year was abandoned after a terrorism bomb blast before the second test in Karachi.

NZC public affairs manager Richard Boock told Radio Sport they're conducting due diligence around the security situation.

Boock said NZC had no pre-conceived position and will respond to the PCB's request when the process is complete.

Pakistan has been starved of almost all international cricket since the Sri Lankan team bus was shot at during a 2009 tour.

They have played three ODIs against Zimbabwe, and nine T20s against Zimbabwe, West Indies, Sri Lanka and a World XI at home since.

The re-engagement process began in 2015.
