New Zealand Cricket is investigating whether it is safe to send the Black Caps to Pakistan later this year.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has asked the governing body to play the Twenty20 component of the series in the country.
New Zealand's current tour, which also includes one-day internationals and tests,
is scheduled for October and November in the United Arab Emirates.
The ODIs and tests will remain in the UAE, regardless.
New Zealand last played in Pakistan during 2003 with a ODI series.
