New Zealand cricket captain Ross Taylor is a doubtful starter for the upcoming one-day series against South Africa as he battles back from the calf injury he sustained in the one-off test with Zimbabwe.
He was initially ruled out of the three-match Twenty20 series with the Proteas, which starts in
Wellington tonight, but he's not prepared to risk the calf in the one-day series if it's not right because his priority is next month's three tests.
"I'm back running slowly,'' Taylor told Radio Sport. "Everything's going to plan.
"When the physio told me four to six weeks, I automatically thought four weeks. We'll just see how it goes but I won't be pushing myself. If I'm not quite ready, I'll just have to miss out on the one-dayers.''
Brendon McCullum has been leading the team in Taylor's absence and helped them to wins in the test, three one-dayers and two Twenty20 internationals against Zimbabwe. Taylor said the team was doing well in his absence and he was better off resting the niggly calf for an extra 10 days.
