Cricket: Man-of-the-match catch 'brilliant'

Trent Boult had talked before the second test of enjoying bowling at the Basin Reserve; he showed how much in his man-of-the-match-winning performance against the West Indies.

Not only did he grab 10 wickets, including nine yesterday, his spectacular catch to remove Denesh Ramdin was effectively the final act for a shattered West Indian side.

"Everything did feel pretty good," the 24-year-old said last night.

"Conditions were obviously suiting any swing bowler and it was one of those days when things seemed to feel good and happen for me. Yeah, very satisfying."

His first innings six for 40 eclipsed the six for 68 he took against England at Eden Park last March as his best single innings return, so his best day in tests?

"Yeah, I guess you could go that far. It's nothing I'm going to forget in a hurry."

Of his catch, from Corey Anderson's bowling, Boult was a bit bemused.

"I kind of threw my body up there and it literally went straight into my hands. I don't know how that happened, to be honest. But it was brilliant, if I can say that."

Tim Southee and Neil Wagner did their bit yesterday with strong spells after lunch, but this was Boult's test.

In the course of the match he jumped ahead of Dion Nash, Richard Collinge, Simon Doull, Chris Cairns and Frank Cameron in averages of those with 50 or more test wickets.

He chomped four runs off his average, which now sits at 26.92, with only Shane Bond (22.09), Richard Hadlee (22.29) and Bruce Taylor (26.60) ahead of him.
