1. Guptill dismissed after making a difference on return
7.3 overs - New Zealand 57 for one:
It was 18-year-old Akila Dananjaya's first over in T20 cricket and Guptill looked to
teach the young 'un a lesson but got caught by Thisara Perera on the long off boundary. The shame for New Zealand was how menacing Guptill looked. He had 38 from 30 balls, returning to the side after missing the Pakistan match with a hamstring strain.
2. 19th over bowled by James Franklin
Sri Lanka 154 for three:
Best exemplified the match's ebb and flow. The over read: 6, 1 (Tillakaratne Dilshan run out 76), 1, 1, 4, Thisara Perera bowled off stump. Sri Lanka moved to 167 for five but without two players who could have got them home sans the extra over. Ross Taylor expected to use Franklin sparingly; the left-armer ended up bowling his complement.
3. Lahiru Thirimanne steps in for Dilshan
19.5 overs - Sri Lanka 170 for five:
The ghost of Dilshan returned for the final over. Thirimanne pre-empted death bowler Tim Southee by opting for a scoop on the penultimate ball. Southee was full and wide outside off stump so Thirimanne picked him up over short fine leg to tie the scores. Cue pandemonium.
4. Lahiru Thirimanne run out
19.6 overs - Sri Lanka 174 for six:
Southee bowls, Thirimanne gets an inside edge which bobbles off the pitch. Franklin bounce throws to Taylor who fumbles but the ball still dislodges a bail, according to television umpire Steve Davis. Surreal scenes envelop the ground. While a decision is made, the players shake hands, the army marches onto the field and the groundstaff prepares the pitch for the next match in the double header.
