Cricket: Day one play abandoned

Fog and light rain has caused the abandonment of the first day of the second cricket test between New Zealand and Australia at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, today.

Umpires David Shepherd and Rudi Koertzen called play off for the day at 1.15pm (local time), with the weather showing no sign of lifting.

The forecast was for similar conditions tomorrow, with play scheduled to start 30 minutes early at 10am.

New Zealand were yet to name their final 11 while Australia, who lead the three-match series 1-0, yesterday named an unchanged side from their nine-wicket win in Christchurch.
