The Black Caps have scored a comprehensive 146-run victory over Bangladesh at McLean Park in Napier tonight, turning predictions of a hard-fought ODI on their head after a spectacular collapse in the vistors' bottom order.

The home side received a scare after Brendon McCullum, the leading scorer in Wednesday night's
Twenty20 one-off international, was dismissed for zero runs in the third over. Subsequent batting efforts ranged from fair to miserable, with Tim Southee also heading back to the sheds without a run to his name.

Jacob Oram was New Zealand's top scorer with 83 runs, with Neil Broom (71), Ross Taylor (51) and opener Peter Ingram (69) also passing the half-century mark.

Skipper Daniel Vettori maintained an excellent strike rate of 118 percent but didn't last long enough at the crease to make an impact, dismissed in the 35th over after scoring 32 runs.

Tamim Iqbal was top scorer for Bangladesh, scoring 62 runs. He was the only player on his side to score a half-century.

* NZ vs Bangladesh, 1st ODI as it happened:

9.22pm: It's all over for Bangladesh, the wickets of Shafiul Islam and Naeem Islam falling in the 44th over thanks to slick bowling from Martin Guptill and the respective fielding talents of Ross Taylor and Brendon McCullum.

Final score: NZ all out for 336 | Bangladesh all out for 190.

Thank you for joining nzherald.co.nz for tonight's ODI updates.

9.10pm: It's 182/8 and the fat lady is running through her vocal exercises as Shahadat Hossain is dismissed for one run, caught by James Franklin off a Jacob Oram delivery.

Shafiul Islam joins the fray and whacks Andy McKay's second ball of the 39th over to the boundary for four, but Bangladesh's target of 337 is looking to be beyond reach at this point.

New Zealand's bowling and fielding efforts have more than made up for the patchy batting seen earlier in the match.

8.51pm: 167/7 for Bangladesh as Andy McKay continues to stamp his authority all over this match, catching a wayward shot from Mohammad Mahmudullah just centimetres above the McLean Park turf.

It's now up to Shahadat Hossain and Naheem Islam to try and engineer a miracle for Bangladesh.

8.22pm: Bangladesh is at 146/6 after two more wickets fall quickly.

Luck ran out in the 28th over for Shakib Al Hasan, caught by Tim Southee off a Daniel Vettori delivery.

Mohammad Mahmudullah arrives to replace Al Hasan and almost immediately hits a massive six off a delivery from Daryl Tuffey. He doesn't have long to strike up a partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim, who is gone in the 29th over thanks to slick fielding from wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum. Naheem Islam takes the field in Rahim's place.

After a roaring start, the wheels are falling off the Bangladeshi wagon quite spectacularly.

8.12pm: Bangladesh is at 132/4 as their batting session passes the halfway mark at McLean Park tonight, an upset victory over New Zealand surely now in doubt after a strong start from Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes.

The Black Caps set the visitors a target of 337 runs for the win.

NZ bowler Daryl Tuffey is turning the screws on Bangladeshi batsman Shakib Al Hasan, who should consider himself fortunate to have scored one run during the 27th over.

7.53pm: Bangladesh is at 119/4 after Daniel Vettori took the wickets of Raqibul Hasan and opening batsman Tamim Iqbal in the 21st over.

Iqbal had proven tricky to beat, and remains Bangladesh's top scorer with 62 runs. Mohammad Ashraful was dismissed in the 15th over, another victim of the McKay-McCullum connection.

7.04pm: And just as Brendon McCullum was the first scalp claimed by Bangladesh during New Zealand's innings this afternoon, it is fitting that he should claim the first scalp of the Bangladeshi innings.

The eagle-eyed wicketkeeper was there to strike when a delivery from bowler Andy McKay glanced off the glove of Imrul Kayes and into his hands.

Mohammad Ashraful takes to the pitch now in the 11th over.

7.00pm: Just as Brendon McCullum and Peter Ingram destroyed Bangladesh's bowling attack during Wednesday night's Twenty20 international, Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes are making muppets out of New Zealand's bowlers this evening.

The opening pair have struck some well-read, well-executed shots throughout their partnership, in contrast to the desperate slogging and running which saw the likes of McCullum and Tim Southee dismissed well before their time.

Kayes leads the scoring for Bangladesh, with 32 runs off 27 balls at the end of the ninth over.

6.40pm: Iqbal and Kayes are putting the New Zealand bowlers to the sword in Napier this evening, their partnership resulting in 36 runs by the end of the sixth over.

6.25pm: Iqbal and Kayes have made a good start to the Bangladeshi run chase, posting 13 runs between them after two overs.

For comparison's sake, the Black Caps' score at the same point: One run.

Bangladesh is a very capable side when it comes to the 50-over game, so target of 337 is not beyond them. The Black Caps have every reason to be concerned.

6.15pm: Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes are on the pitch for Bangladesh as their run chase begins.

5.45pm: New Zealand's batting session is done and dusted after 50 overs at McLean Park this evening.

Jacob Oram top-scored for the home side with 83 runs off 40 balls before his dismissal in the final over, leaving Daryl Tuffey and newcomer Andy McKay to finish the job.

Bangladesh will go in to bat shortly with 336 runs the score to beat.

5.30pm: Tim Southee marched onto the field to replace Neil Broom, run out for 71, and promptly marched off again after being bowled out by Shaiful Islam for zero.

Daryl Tuffey joins Jacob Oram, leading the way for NZ with a masterful 82 runs, as the Black Caps' innings nears its final over.

5.04pm: Neil Broom has batted his way to a half century and Jacob Oram looks set to join him as the Black Caps' session enters its 45th over.

Oram made a mockery of Nazmul Hossain's bowling in the 44th over, smashing a six and three boundaries to claim 18 runs in a matter of moments.

4.37pm: Daniel Vettori is gone, having knocked 27 balls for 32 runs before being run-out in what is a disappointing end to a bravely-fought innings.

Jacob Oram is on the field to replace him as Neil Broom moves closer to the 50-run mark, but the pressure is on the Black Caps to show some of the vicious streak which helped put paid to the visitors on Wednesday night.

The Bangladesh side is playing with clinical precision this afternoon, frustrating the home side and forcing them into errors.

4.09pm: NZ captain Daniel Vettori is geared-up for a big innings after master slogger Ross Taylor was caught and bowled for 51 in the 27th over.

3.47pm: James Franklin barely had time to breathe in the atmosphere before being caught and bowled for two. Neil Broom is the next Black Cap out - for glory or for slaughter?

3.37pm: Peter Ingram's charge towards an ODI century has been cut short by some masterful fielding by Mohammad Ashraful, his heroic stand over after 69 runs from 74 deliveries.

Ingram sent nine of those balls to the boundary for almost half his runs total.

James Franklin is on the pitch as Ross Taylor, currently nursing a 100 percent strike rate, looks to continue Ingram's domination of the Bangladeshi bowling attack.

3.17pm: After a weak start by the Black Caps, opening batsman Peter Ingram blasted three balls to the boundary in the sixth over to give the home side some momentum.

Fourth batsman Ross Taylor entered the fray after Martin Guptill was dismissed for two runs and has put a massive dent in Bangaldeshi hopes, scoring 28 runs off 30 balls before the 18th over.

Ingram is currently maintaining a 100 percent strike rate, with 55 runs off 55 balls, including a staggering nine boundary shots.

Ingram and Brendon McCullum made short work of the visitors during Wednesday night's T20 clash in Hamilton, with the unbeaten duo's 78 runs being enough to seal victory. McCullum was dismissed for zero after three overs today.

2.52pm: Opener Peter Ingram has stepped up to take control of the Black Caps' attack after his partner Brendon McCullum was dimissed at the top of the fourth over for zero runs.

After a weak start by the Black Caps, Ingram blasted three balls to the boundary in the sixth over to give the home side some momentum.

Third batsman Martin Guptill barely broke a sweat before being caught and bowled for two. Ross Taylor has joined Ingram on the pitch and, after 11 overs, has contributed 14 runs to NZ's total of 47.

2.27pm: Third batsman Martin Guptill barely broke a sweat before being dismissed for two runs.

2.13pm: Twenty20 hero Brendon McCullum has been dismissed after a weak opening effort this afternoon at McLean Park, breaking up the partnership which caused so much havoc on Wednesday night.

Shahadat Hossain and Nazmul Hossain's methodical bowling and some tight fielding from the Bangladeshi fielders have frustrated the Black Caps' efforts to get runs on the board. McCullum scored no runs before his dismissal at the top of the fourth over, run-out by Mohammad Ashraful.

2.09pm: Twenty20 heroes Brendon McCullum and Peter Ingram have opened New Zealand's batting attack at today's one-day international against Bangladesh at McLean Park in Napier.

Shahadat Hossain and Nazmul Hossain have thus far managed to keep the Kiwis' big guns contained, with only one run scored in the first two overs. A daring shot from McCullum in the second over almost resulted in an early dismissal and what would have been a tremendous boost to Bangladesh's morale.

McCullum and Ingram made short work of the visitors during Wednesday night's T20 clash in Hamilton, with the unbeaten duo's 78 runs being enough to seal victory.

2.00pm: Twenty20 heroes Brendon McCullum and Peter Ingram will open New Zealand's batting attack at today's one-day international against Bangladesh at McLean Park in Napier.

McCullum and Ingram made short work of the visitors during Wednesday night's T20 clash in Hamilton, with the unbeaten duo's 78 runs being enough to seal victory.

Can the Black Caps continue that dominance through today's ODI?

1.45pm: The Black Caps have won the toss and will bat first in today's one-day international against Bangladesh at McLean Park in Napier.

Led by NZ Sportsman of the year finalist Daniel Vettori, the New Zealanders made short work of the visitors during Wednesday night's Twenty20 clash in Hamilton.
