Sri Lanka collapsed to be all out for just 164 in the 48th over of their innings with Tillakaratne Dilshan top-scoring with 42 while Shane Bond, Jacob Oram and Kyle Mills captured three wicketseach.
New Zealand cruised to victory in the 38th over with Peter Fulton unbeaten on 70 and Hamish Marshall not out 16. Opener Jamie How also made 58 on debut.
Today's match was the second in a five-game series which began a year ago but was postponed after just one match, won by New Zealand, when southern Asia was hit by the Boxing Day tsunami.
