The Black Caps have avoided a first defeat to USA after a Matt Henry five-wicket bag secured a seven-run warm-up win in preparation for the Twenty20 Cup.
The US needed 12 off the last over to chase down New Zealand’s 208 for seven to earn the shock victory in Mumbaibut Henry took two wickets to deny them.
Henry finished with 5-22 while Tim Seifert (66 from 31) and Glenn Phillips (40 from 18) led the way with the way.
New Zealand open their World Cup account against Afghanistan in Chennai on Sunday night.
