Andrew Alderson breaks down the best bits from the second day of the third test between the Black Caps and Pakistan in Sharjah.
Important moment: McCullum delivered Yasir Shah straight into the main stand to reach his fourth double century. He had lightning hand speed through the ball; the Pakistanishad more sedate hand speed applauding. This innings, at such an awkward time, raised McCullum another notch in the New Zealand cricket pantheon.
Best shot: Selecting the best shot from a Kane Williamson innings is like being presented with a box of Swiss chocolates. There is rarely a roughie - no artificial strawberry flavours here - but isolating one is a tough job. Let's go for the checked off drive from Rahat Ali to go past his highest test score of 161.
Ball of the day: Ali angling across Williamson for the first ball after tea. Nothing spectacular - is anything on this pitch? - but seized a rare opportunity when Williamson might be vulnerable. He took a nibble; Younis Khan's safe hands did the rest.
That's quirky: Some welcome levity as the big screen pops up with 'Happy Birthday Younis Khan'. He was 37 today. Hip-hip-hurrah...
Stats all: Brendon McCullum joins Sir Donald Bradman and Michael Clarke as cricketers to make two or more double centuries and a triple century within a 12-month period.
Testometer: New Zealand 80:20 - A commanding lead in prospect with two days to play. The '20' relates more to the prospect of a draw.
