The second cricket test between New Zealand and Pakistan is almost certainly heading for a draw after a mind-numbingly slow start to the fourth day.
Resuming at 341 for six and a deficit of 135 at Christchurch's Jade Stadium, Pakistan showed little interest in accelerating their scoring rate, instead grinding out
just 56 to be 395 for six in their first innings at lunch.
The only bright moment of the morning's play was when Yousuf Youhana brought up his sixth test century in 271 minutes, as he shared in an unbroken seventh wicket stand of 91with No.8 batsman Saqlain Mushtaq.
Saqlain, who has a test average of 14.22, was 34 not out, further highlighting New Zealand's lack of penetration at the bowling crease.
Youhana was unbeaten of 110.
As slowly as Pakistan batted, New Zealand's defensive field-placings hardly helped the chances of a result, with just a solitary slip standing for most of the session despite the home side's relatively strong position and handy lead.
Daryl Tuffey continued to look the most dangerous New Zealand bowler, but otherwise the hosts seemed to have few penetrative options, with spinner Grant Bradburn, paceman Chris Martin and all-rounder Craig McMillan all proving fairly harmless.
