Kane Williamson will depart the Black Caps squad today to recover from a minor shoulder injury.
Williamson's injury occurred while diving in the field during the Black Caps' first test against Sri Lanka at Hagley Oval recently and was expected to keep him out for seven to 10 days.
CoachMike Hesson said that while they had successfully managed the injury during the second test and opening one-day international, now was the right time for Williamson to recover with next month's World Cup looming.
"Kane is obviously a very important player for us and we need to give his shoulder the time to fully recover," said Hesson.
"He's played a lot of cricket of late and this window will allow him to get back to 100 per cent."
Williamson scored 15 during yesterday's three-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Christchurch as New Zealand took a 1-0 lead in the seven-match series.
Top-order batsman Ross Taylor, who sat out the opening one-day match to spend time with his family, will return to the squad as they prepare for the second game of the series, which takes place in Hamilton on Thursday.
