Cricket: Symonds in more booze related strife

BRISBANE - Controversial all-rounder Andrew Symonds is once again in trouble after reportedly being shown the door at a Brisbane bar on Sunday night.

It's understood Symonds was drinking on the weekend to celebrate the end of the Sheffield Shield season and was asked to leave the Watt Bar at New Farm.

Brisbane afternoon newspaper mX reported Symonds and his friends were sent away after the cricketer accidentally broke a glass and was stumbling and calling out boisterously to his friends.

It is the latest incident in a forgettable summer of misdemeanours and poor form for the out-of-favour test star and could spell the end of his fading Ashes selection chances.

Symonds has been undergoing a second period of counselling and rehabilitation after returning to the game last month following knee surgery at the start of the year.

The 33-year-old was ordered to undergo counselling after the "gone fishing' affair in late August but was recalled to the test team in November.

He played five straight tests before being sidelined by injury.

While recovering, he copped a A$4000 ($4998) fine for calling New Zealand wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum a "lump of shit" in a radio interview while under the influence of alcohol.

The incident saw him receive a "last chance" warning by Cricket Australia for his off-field behaviour.

A Queensland Cricket spokesman said on Monday Symonds' rehabilitation was ongoing and he was not banned from drinking.

"He's allowed to have a drink and I'm sure the boys were looking after him," the spokesman told mX.

Symonds was drinking in a group including his girlfriend Katie Johnson and Bulls captain Chris Simpson.

The group left without incident.
