Cricket: NZ produced dominant display

New Zealand produced a dominant bowling and fielding display in their opening Champions Trophy match to dismiss Sri Lanka for 138 in 37.5 overs at Cardiff.

Captain Brendon McCullum was the pivotal player. He took a candidate for catch of the tournament at second slip from the first ball of the match. His decision to bowl Daniel Vettori (in his first ODI since March 2011) first change in the eighth over paid immediate dividends. Mahela Jayawardene was adjudged lbw with Vettori's fourth ball. McCullum's aggressive field placings restricted Sri Lanka to 38 for four at the end of the first powerplay, a position from which they never recovered.

Mitchell McClenaghan had the best bowling figures of four for 43 from 8.5 overs. Kumar Sangakkara top-scored with 68.
