Cricket: Matt Henry's cracking form for Kent continues

Matt Henry's flying start to his career with English county Kent continues to roar along.

The New Zealand seamer took his tally of wickets to 37in four games at a remarkable 9.5 apiece with another 10-wicket haul against Sussex.

Henry took four for 69 in Sussex's first innings and followed that with six for 53 as Kent rolled the visitors for 211 to win by 58 runs.

The result leaves Kent second in the second division championship on 61 points, behind only Warwickshire on 76.

Henry has joined Kent on a short-term contract and is playing seven first-class games and eight in the one-day competition.

There's no doubt Kent will be chuffed at their recruitment work.

So far Henry has taken match figures of seven for 70 against Gloucestershire, 12 for 73 against Durham, eight for 90 against Glamorgan and now 10 for 122.

Add in a rapid 55 with the bat in Ken't second innings and he is turning into a valuable acquisition.

Henry is likely to be particularly happy about the manner of the dismissals against Sussex.

He bowled five Sussex batsmen and had one lbw, testimony to bowling straight and committing the batsmen to playing the ball, which he explained to the Herald at the weekend.

''I want to make sure I'm not wasting the ball by trying to beat the outside edge, but trying to bring lbw amd bowled into play a bit more,'' he said.

Another New Zealand player, Doug Bracewell, struck 81 and took four wickets for Northamptonshire in their match against Warwickshire but it was a grim outing for veteran test batsman Ross Taylor.

He bagged a pair for Nottinghamshire against Lancashire at Trent Bridge, lbw for a duck in both innings to former England seamer Graham Onions. Lancashire won by an innings and 67 runs.
