BRISBANE - England have captured the wicket of Matthew Hayden for 197 early on the second day of the first Ashes test against Australia.
Hayden had added just 11 runs to his overnight score of 186 when he gloved a catch to wicketkeeper Alec Stewart off fast bowler Andy Caddick.
When Hayden departed, Australia were 378 for three with Damien Martyn on 12.
Hayden began the second day well, hitting early boundaries off Caddick and fellow paceman Matthew Hoggard to close in on a double hundred.
Hayden was struck on the back of the leg by an errant throw at the stumps from Hoggard.
Hayden departs in Caddick's next over, ending a marathon innings that spanned 395 minutes and 268 balls. The 31-year-old hit 25 boundaries and two sixes.
