Constant rain in Pallekele, which also hosted the abandoned Twenty20 that opened the tour, meant the covers were never taken off the ground.
Of the scheduled 140 overs on the tour so far
only 16 have been completed.
The sides now head to Colombo for the next two one-dayers with the second ODI taking place on Sunday night (NZT).
The weather forecast for Colombo over the next three days doesn't look promising with lightning and rain predicated.
