Powerhouses AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli joined forces and led the romp with a century a piece as the Royal Challengers Bangalore demolished the Brendon McCullum-led Gujarat Lions by 144 runs to set one of many Indian Premier League records on Sunday (NZT).
McCullum, leading Gujarat due to the
absence of regular skipper Suresh Raina, won the coin toss and opted to bowl, only to endure masterclass performances from the South African and Indian superstars.
De Villiers scored 129 runs not out off 52 balls, while his partner Kohli powered 109 off 55, helping propel Bangalore to to a total of 248, setting a T20 record stand in the process of 229 runs off 96 balls.
ESPN Cricinfo reported that that it is just the second time in T20 history that two batsmen have scored centuries during the same innings, while Kohli set another IPL record by scoring his third 100 of the season.
