Auckland Grammar and Mt Albert Grammar, who are both unbeaten, go head to head in the Auckland A1 soccer competition at Mt Albert Grammar on Saturday (noon kick-off).

Mt Albert are three points ahead of Grammar on the table but Grammar have a game in hand.

Mt Albert go into the match on the back of a 5-0 win over St Peters.

In other matches last week Westlake beat St Kentigern 7-0.

In the Counties Manukau competition Rosehill College emerged 2-1 victors in their top-of-the-table clash with Waiuku College. Papakura High beat Aorere College 4-0 and Manurewa beat Pukekohe 6-0.

Curling

The Long Bay College Gliders edged Rangitoto 7-6 in the closest match of round eight of the Auckland competition at the Paradice rink in Avondale.

The Long Bay College Nuggets defeated Birkenhead College Team Patel 5-1.

Birkenhead College Mixed beat Henderson High School by default and Kelston Girls beat Epsom Girls Grammar Team Ky 10-3.

Hockey

Auckland Grammar and Westlake Boys High will battle it out tonight to determine the winner of Pool A in the Intercity competition.

Both schools go into the match with three wins from three games. Grammar have scored more goals (22), but Westlake have yet to concede one.

In pool B Massey, Kings and Rangitoto all had four points from two games before last night's catch-up between Massey and Kings.

Tonight Kings play Rosehill and Rangitoto play McLeans, which will leave the final points resting on tomorrow night's game between Massey and Rangitoto.

Multisport

Competition in duathlon continues to grow with 18 podium places at the nationals shared among the 15 schools.

Only Rangitoto College and Taupo Nui-A-Tia College secured more than one title.

Five of the medal winners - Kate Mitchell and Scott Buswell (Rangitoto), Ryan Sissons (Macleans), Sian Walker (Waikato Diocesan) and Nicole Treweek (Cambridge High) have been named to represent New Zealand at either the world junior under-20 or age-group (18-19 year olds) championships in Canada on Sunday.

Orienteering

Mt Roskill Grammar seventh-former Simon Jager shrugged off jetlag to easily take the senior boys title at the New Zealand championship, three days after a 36-hour journey from Lithuania and the junior world championships.

Jager beat Havelock North's Jack Vincent by 2m 22s. Andrew Peat from Kings was third.

For fellow NZ team member Kate Rea (Chilton St James) the championship outing in Auckland's Woodhill Forest was a disaster.

She was disqualified from the senior girls event after picking up the incorrect map at the start and completing the wrong course.

Rugby

AUCKLAND

Auckland Grammar lead the 1A competition after a comfortable 29-5 win over Tangaroa.

The Auckland backs looked dangerous and a number of line breaks led to tries for both the forwards and backs. Sami Fisilau was man of the match.

Auckland now have a five-point buffer over second placed Kings College, who were defeated by Kelston Boys 16-3.

Mt Albert Grammar won a close battle with St Pauls College. With two tries each it was the boot of Mt Albert's accurate goal kicker Ray Laulala that proved the difference in the 19-15 victory.

In other matches St Kentigern drew with Tamaki College 12-all, De La Salle beat St Peters 32-18 and Sacred Heart beat Otahuhu 32-18.

NORTH HARBOUR

Rosmini College won the Woodhouse Shield and four competition points after edging out Takapuna Grammar 12-8.

The Orewa College and Birkenhead College match was also close with Orewa taking a 12-7 win. Rangitoto College, however, had no trouble dismissing Mahurangi College 22-0.

COUNTIES MANUKAU

Manurewa beat Wesley College 26-22 in section one. In section two Wesley beat Manurewa 42-11 and James Cook High School beat Papakura High 12-0.
