The bold move by Coliseum Sports has sparked the interest of the New Zealand Rugby Union.
Coliseum's stunned New Zealand's sport broadcasting market by securing the English Premier League rights from Sky for next season.
NZRU CEO Steve Tew told RadioSport that their next broadcast deal in two and a half years is now very interesting.
"When we go to market next time to monetise what we have to sell, the more competition there is, the more spice in the market the better it will be. So there's no doubt that Coliseum is a matter of interest to us.''
Tew said they'll definitely approach the process differently next time.
"We've got to find the right balance. Will we approach the sales process differently from last time? Certainly because it will be five years on and the world's changed.''
"There are other parties who are gearing up to do some similar stuff both here and abroad with New Zealand-based content so I think it's really exciting.''
