Brazilian driver killed in sports car crash

A 35-year-old Brazilian driver has died after crashing his sports car while practicing for a race in southern Brazil this weekend.

The Brazilian auto racing federation said Friday that Robson Kolling crashed his MRX prototype into a protective barrier at the end of the front straight at the Ayrton Senna track in the city of Londrina.

The federation said the cause of the accident was under investigation, but an initial probe showed there were no signs Kolling tried to brake as he approached the first turn. It said a "sudden illness" was among the possible causes.

The Londrina 500 will be held on Saturday. Qualifying was postponed from Friday to Saturday morning because of the accident.
