The war of words between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, which threatened to erupt during last week's four-city media tour, spilt onto the streets over the weekend.
According to a report by the New York Post, a group of the UFC star's supporters surrounded Mayweather's car on Saturday (NZ time)following the final press conference in London and got physical with one of the boxer's security guards, while blocking the car's path.
According to footage obtained by TMZ, the crowd chanting "Conor McGregor" approached Mayweather's luxury Rolls Royce, while some managed to come face-to-face with the backseat window where he was sitting, reported the New York Post.
A security guard trying to move the fans out of the car's path had his back to the car as it shot forward to make its escape, knocking him to the ground, and eliciting cheers and laughs from the McGregor faithful.
Another of Mayweather's security guards attempted to intervene, pushing onlookers away from the car and shouting, "Get the f*** out the way!"
According to the report, the mayhem delayed Mayweather's exit by at least several minutes.
McGregor and Mayweather lit up social media with their comments during the tour that also included stops in Los Angeles, New York and Toronto last week, with both fighters criticised for their expletive-laden rants, and homophobic and racial insults hurled at each other.
Mayweather, a 49-0 multiple world champion boxer, and McGregor, UFC's biggest star, go head-to-head in Las Vegas on August 26 in what will be boxing's richest ever fight.
