Watch: Boxer reveals gruesome post-fight injuries after Selby-Warrington undercard

A UK fighter suffered a gruesome cut to his lip on the undercard of the Lee Selby-Josh Warrington IBF world featherweight title fight in Leeds on Sunday.

Mason Cartwright — who was unbeaten in 14 fights — squared off with 15-0 favourite Darren Tetley in a welterweight contest.

It was a proper scrap as both men strived to avoid a maiden defeat, but the referee was forced to call an end to proceedings after the ninth round when Cartwright was caught with a shot that literally tore apart his face.

Later, Warrington realised his world title dream at his beloved Elland Road by upsetting Selby to clinch the IBF featherweight crown via split decision after a 12-round thriller.

Fervent Leeds supporter Warrington was roared into the ring by an expectant crowd estimated to be around 25,000 in his home city.

Warrington was a clear underdog against his Welsh opponent but rose to the challenge in the West Yorkshire cauldron to maintain his perfect professional record and end Selby's near three-year reign as world champion at 126 pounds.

Warrington was given the nod by two of the judges — 116-112 and 115-113 — with a third scoring the fight 115-113 in Selby's favour.

Another domestic dust-up may loom for Warrington as the winner of this bout had been heavily linked with Northern Ireland's Carl Frampton, whose next fight has been slated for Windsor Park later this summer.
