'People have no idea': Floyd's riches hide his dark past of poverty and addiction

Floyd Mayweather may have boxed his way to victory and an estimated $375 million from his fight with Conor McGregor, but it wasn't all fun and games for one of the greatest boxers of all time.

Now on his way to the billionaire's club, Floyd, who uses the nickname "Money", has a rags to riches story after being raised in poverty by a dysfunctional family.

Living in a New Jersey apartment sharing a bedroom with six kids, Mayweather would often come home from school to find heroin needles in the front garden and would go for days or weeks with no electricity.

His father was jailed for drug dealing while his mother was a drug addict.

In a previous interview, Mayweather claimed: "I was the man in the house from 16. That's just the way it was."

Christmas was a hard time for the family, with Mayweather's mother allegedly stealing presents so her children could experience Christmas.

The keen young boxer soon realised his only way out of poverty was to tap into his skill of fighting and decided to drop out of high school to develop his talent.

"When people see what I have now, they have no idea where I came from and how I didn't have anything growing up.

"People don't know the hell I've been through."

He said: "I knew I was going to have to try to take care of my mum and I made the decision that school wasn't that important. I was going to have to box to earn a living."

After making his way through the ranks and winning numerous belts across five weight divisions Mayweather ended his career with 50 professional wins and 0 losses.

Growing up in poverty, Mayweather is now the richest fighter in history.

Private jets, super cars and images showing his life of excess, are plastered all over his social media accounts.

Mayweather owns two private jets - his 12-seater Gulfstream III has white seats, a fully-stocked kitchen and personalised headrests.

The custom-built plane also has gold cup holders, a gold sink and gold accents throughout.

From million dollar beach homes to "big boy mansions", Mayweather now has it all.

Now he has officially hung up his gloves, he'll have plenty of time to enjoy the empire he created from nothing.
