Boxing: Title dreams come to sudden end for Mosquera

Pantera Mosquera's dream of a world boxing title ended at one minute 21 seconds into round four at Auckland's Unitec gym on Saturday night when he asked the ref to stop the fight.

Pantera had given Filipino Dindo Castanerez a lesson in boxing in rounds one to three.

But the WBF light welterweight champ opened round four with furious body shots and Pantera simply ran out of petrol, backed up and couldn't defend. At 39, his career may be over.

On the undercard of the NZ National Boxing Federation event, Fijian Joy Ali took just one round to beat Rawiri Wiremu by KO to hang on to his Oceania welterweight title and entertaining American Chauncey Welliver won a unanimous points decision over Samoan Bob Gasio.
