Boxing: Kwadjo held up on arriving to NZ

Joseph Kwadjo is the unknown quantity in tomorrow's cruiserweight Super 8 boxing tournament and he did nothing to shed that image as he missed today's weigh-ins.

The Ghanaian-born Fijian, who sports a 21-7 record as a professional but has never been knocked down, was held up on his arrival to New Zealand from Fiji.

It's understood there were a few concerns around his visa but he was expected to be in the country later today ahead of tomorrow's event on the North Shore.

Of the other seven entrants in the last-man-standing tournament, all of them comfortably made it inside the cruiserweight limit of 90.7kg.

The draw was made at the weigh-ins, held at City Boxing, and Kwadjo will meet the tournament's $2.20 favourite with the bookies, Brad Pitt, in the first round.

Australian Daniel Ammann will clash with kickboxer Israel Adesanya, while there's a local rematch in store between Monty Filimaea and James Emerson.

Samoan bruiser Vaitele Soi will collide with Lance Bryant in the toughest first-round match, featuring the tournament's two biggest punchers.

The Super 8 card will be headlined by a legacy bout between veterans Shane Cameron (99kg) and Kali Meehan (41-5, 108.1kg).

Previously, the WBA's Oceania heavyweight title was going to be on the line but that was upgraded today to the Pan African belt; a strap which the 29-4 Cameron has held before.

In the co-main event of the evening at the North Shore Events Centre, Kiwi cruiserweight David Aloua (11-1) will defend his regional titles against Australian Anthony McCracken (16-7-1) in a rematch of their 2012 bout, which Aloua won via split decision.

Meehan's son Willis (120.8kg) will begin the undercard as he meets Kiwi Will Quarrie (104.7kg) in his professional debut.
