Cheered on by their home green supporters, Palmerston North won the men's title at the national interclub bowls championships yesterday.
Elmwood, the Christchurch club which has completed a clean sweep of all interclub titles in Canterbury this season, won the women's title in equally-convincing fashion.
The
Palmerston North men only had to win one game in the final round to secure victory but did so in style when singles player Ross Ellery beat one of the country's finest singles exponents, Jamie Hill of Rawhiti, 21-16.
The pairs combination of Pat Horgan and Eric Watson then accounted for former world champion Andrew Curtin and national development player Blake Signal.
Elmwood women's singles ace Pam Phair won all her five matches.
