Rowan Brassey's misfortunes at the national championships continued yesterday during the disrupted qualifying rounds in the fours.
In the only round completed, Brassey's powerhouse Avondale club four of Ross Haresnape, Jamie Hill and Neville Hill was upset by a Malcolm Moore-skipped Hillcrest four.
Brassey, however, should still qualify for post-section
play, which is scheduled to begin tomorrow. With the abandonment of yesterday's fourth round, the cutoff point for qualifying after today's fifth and sixth rounds will now be three wins.
Only the third round in the men's and women's championships were completed yesterday before rain made just about every green unplayable.
Among the leading skips with three wins, and thus already qualified, were Gary Lawson, Petar Sain, Ivan Marsic, George Benvenuti, Lou Newman and Graham Skellern.
Those who, like Brassey, still need one win include Rob Ashton, Mike Farac and Leo Leonard.
Among top women's skips with three wins were Wendy Jensen, Judy Carson, Sharon Sims, Judy Howat and Shona Klimeck.
Former world champion Patsy Jorgensen's misery continued, and with three losses already her four cannot qualify.
