A total of 59 games were at the third day of the Schick Championships today. As a result, the grand-finals for the A competition is set to tip off in the evening. Both grand-finals will be livestreamed on www.maoritelevision.com. The AA competition heads to the preliminary quarter-final stages.

In
the A Girls Grand-Final, Manukura will play Ellesmere College at 5:45pm.

Manukura were in control of their semi-final against Stratford High School, winning 73-63. Rouchelle Fourie top scored with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Harata Coleman backed that with 19 points.

In a much tighter match, the Ellesmere College verses Te Aroha College semi-final was heading for overtime until a well-executed Ellesmere play. Te Aroha were down eight with a minute to play, but they managed to pull it back to 57 all thanks to some impressive range outside the arc. Ellesmere appeared shaky as the Schuler sisters looked to be steeling the game back for Te Aroha. Then Megan Ellis stepped up and halted Te Arohas unbeaten run with an ice cold buzzer-beating layup. Ellis was the stand-out for Ellesmere. Her 30 points and 19 rebounds topped the stats, as well as her full 40 minutes on court. Ellesmere won 59 to 57.

In the A Boys Grand-Final, Stratford High School will battle Te Aroha College.

Stratford won their semi-final against Nga Taiatea 88 to 75. Four of their players chalked up nearly a full 40 minutes each and will be relied upon to back up tomorrow evening. Captain Cameron Trethewey (29pts, 10 reb) and Morgan Trott (34pts, 17 reb) top scored.

Te Aroha College were well-supported by a partisan crowd in their semi-final verses Opunake. Te Aroha were underdogs having lost to Opunake in the Schick Premierships quarterfinals 80 to 77. That defeat is forgotten now with this strong victory over Coach Hills Opunake, winning 67-61. Nico Hill and Harley Loveridge-Seymour top scored the game with 23 points each. It wasnt enough to match Te Arohas wider spread of points, particularly with Sergio Schuler, Junior De Young, Leon van den Heuvel and Christian Garnier all chalking double points.

In the AA Girls competition Westlake Girls, St Peters Girls Cambridge, Queen Margaret College Wellington, and Hamilton Girls High School have all secured a quarter-final berth having topped each of their Pools. Second and third placed teams in those Pools will go through to the preliminary quarter-finals, which will be played at 9am tomorrow morning (Thursday 4 Oct). Those games are:

- Sacred Heart Girls New Plymouth vs St Andrews College, on court one.

- Hutt Valley High School vs Rangitoto College, court three.

- Zone 1 Champions Mt Albert Grammar School v Napier Girls High School, court five.

- And all Auckland battle, Auckland Girls Grammar will play St Marys Ponsonby, court eight.

In the AA Boys competition, Hamilton Boys, Saint Kentigern Collage, Palmerston North Boys High School and Napier Boys High School have all secured a quarter-final berth each having topped each of their Pools. Second and third placed teams in those Pools will go through to the preliminary quarter-finals, which will be played at 9am tomorrow (Thursday 4 Oct). Those games are:

- Rosmini College v Westlake, on the Show Court.
