NBA champions Golden State Warriors unlikely to visit White House

It's an American tradition. Your team wins the big championship and you get to visit the White House.

But according to reports the Golden State Warriors have little interest in visiting American president Donald Trump after securing the NBA title yesterday.

The Warriors claimed their second title in three years after defeating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-1 in the best of seven series.

The team released a statement after yesterday's game five 129-120 win saying: "Today is all about our championship. We have not received an invitation to the White House, but will make those decisions when and if necessary."

However, American radio host Dan Dibley told Radio Sport Breakfast that he is certain the team won't visit president Trump.

"There's no way that the Warriors are going to see 45 [Donald Trump]. The things that he has done already in his presidency have not gone done well with a lot of the members of the Golden State Warriors," the 95.7 The Game Breakfast host said.

Dibley said he has Warriors bench player Shaun Livingston on his radio show every week and the backup guard has already said he won't be going to the White House and said 'all but none of them would go'.

Warriors star Steph Curry and head coach Steve Kerr have also spoken openly about their dislike of Trump during the season.

The New England Patriots visited Trump in April after winning the Super Bowl earlier in the year, with more than 20 players skipping the trip including quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady.
