Kyrie Irving explains bikini babe party controversy

Kyrie Irving doesn't know when to let it go.

Days after hitting back at critics for his yacht party, which featured several bikini-clad women of a fair skin tone, the Cavaliers point guard posted a lengthy explanation on Facebook.

"I'd never think I would have to address something as ridiculous as a yacht party, but I wasn't raised to discriminate against any race let alone any race of women, especially my own," Irving wrote Wednesday.

"I was raised by the black women in my family and for me to be connected to some nonsense like a 'No black girls allowed' party is embarrassing and an inaccurate portrayal of who and what I represent as a man."

After a slew of comments from the Twitterverse poured in over the weekend, chiming in on the skin colour of Irving's guests, the 24-year-old responded by posing for a photo with friends as he continued the NBA title celebrations at the Atlantis Resort.

Irving maintained he never intended to add fuel to the fire.

"I wasn't going to even address any of this because there are literally a million things going on in the world right now that are far more important, rather than people trying to bring question to my character," he wrote.

"I would like to apologise to anyone if they were offended initially without knowing any of what actually happened, but that story has no truth to it and I wanted to clear the air on all of this B.S. And for those who know me, I'm sorry you all had to answer questions about a story as ridiculous as something like this. But now, I would like to continue celebrating this championship. Thank you," he concluded.

Days after the Cavaliers' Game 7 victory over the Warriors in the NBA Finals, Cleveland's point guard jetted south, where he boarded a yacht with several bikini-clad ladies.

After a video surfaced from the party, featuring the women drinking from Solo cups as they danced on deck, several Twitter users chimed in on the (uniform) skin colour of Irving's company.

"Kyrie got nothing but Non-Pasteurized, Pure Lowfat Dairy on that boat..," one user shared in a since-deleted tweet.

On Saturday, Irving responded to the criticism by posting a photo from the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas, where he sat beside a different group of pals.

And a story that would have already been forgotten was given new life thanks to Irving's need to respond to trolls.
