A day after Dallas Mavericks fans were chanting “Fire Nico”, the struggling NBA franchise has parted ways with general manager Nico Harrison.
The man who traded five-time NBA All-Star Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers nine months ago will be relieved of his duties after a three-win, eight-loss startto the season.
That leaves them second-to-last in the Western Conference.
The decision comes a day after “Fire Nico” chants filled their home stadium during a defeat to the Milwaukee Bucks.
“This decision reflects our continued commitment to building a championship-calibre organisation, one that delivers for our players, our partners, and most importantly, our fans,” team governor Patrick Dumont said in a statement to ESPN.
In February, Harrison signed off on the stunning trade to send Doncic to the Lakers in return for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round draft pick.
The Mavericks then won the NBA draft lottery despite only having a 1.8% chance to win the first pick – where they selected Duke University power forward Cooper Flagg.
The Lakers currently have an 8-3 record and sit fourth in the Western Conference, with Doncic instantly becoming a fan favourite in LA, averaging 37.1 points per game this season.
