The NBA players are on their off season and seem to have plenty of spare time, which like everyone else means plenty of time spent flicking through social media.
Minnesota Timberwolves star Jimmy Butler was doing just that when he came across a post on Instagram by actress Gabrielle Union.
Union posted a somewhat alluring photo in swimwear to which Butler commented 'Well Damn'.
The problem being, Union is the wife of Butler's former teammate and now rival Dwyane Wade.
Wade noticed the comment by his former Chicago Bulls teammate after obviously wasn't impressed.
The three-time NBA champion posted a drooling emoji before writing: "Put well damn in caps on my wife photo again and you're gonna see what the good, the bad and the ugly is like".
To which Butler responded: "Well that escalated quickly. Point noted...I'm still coming to the bbq tho...".
Wade is now playing for the Miami Heat, meaning it might be worth circling the New Year's Eve fixture with the Timberwolves when the two players met for the first time next season.
It was the team's first season in the New Zealand league.
