Whether his description of Baynes was directly referencing his manhood or not, Heinsohn's comments were received by most NBA fans as weird and creepy.
He followed those comments up by naming Baynes the man of the match and awarded him his Tommy Award.
"Well it was very, very impressive play tonight by this guy, Mr Baynes," Heinsohn told NBC.
"What he did was anchor the inside play. He played a tough guy, in the big guy (Dwight) Howard, so when you look at what he performed you can see he is going to be a terrific addition.
"I had question marks about him, but they've been erased. He wins the Tommy award."
Naturally the verdict from most commentators is that Baynes should be afraid. Very afraid.
Baynes' shower game wasn't his only attribute that impressed against the Charlotte Hornets.
Given a spot on Boston's starting five, Baynes made an immediate impact at his new team with 10 points, five rebounds and two assists in 18 minutes on the floor.
He also held his own against star centre Dwight Howard, picking up four fouls and making his presence felt inside the paint.
He was so physical, Howard appeared to be very unhappy with the Australian throughout the first half.
"Everyone's in preseason getting used to it again so we've been hitting our teammates for so long that it's fun to get out there and hit someone else's teammates," he said after the game.
"I'm not trying to do anything outside of the rules.
"I watched a couple of those offensive fouls I was called for and they were the right calls. Like I said, it's preseason, we're just trying to get used to it. I'm trying to get back in the swing of things and we're just trying to go out there and stamp our game defensively. That's where we build from."
