Beating the Spurs was an important win for the Thunder team in the tight battle for playoff spots in the Western Conference. The team went into the game 4-9 since January 1 against teams currently in the top eight of the East and West, clinging on to the seventh seed.
However, in beating the Spurs they improved to a 39-29 record and reclaimed the fifth seed.
Point guard Russell Westbrook led the way for the Thunder with a triple-double, positing 21 points, 10 assists and 12 rebounds
Despite Westbrook and forwards Paul George and Carmelo Anthony combining to shoot just 12-39 from the floor, the Thunder seemed to be in control for the majority of the match.
The bench stepped up in a big way, with Patrick Patterson, Alex Abrines and Jerami Grant all scoring in double figures, while Nick Collison made the most of a rare extended run with seven points from 3-5 shooting.
