"It is really nice though - I like it."
On his third night in New Zealand the severe earthquake struck the upper South Island and he's spent the past couple of days fielding calls from friends and family checking on his safety.
Training with the side for the first time yesterday, Stockton says he likes what he sees at the Breakers.
"The team is really well put together, the coaching is great. I can come in and play with confidence, play aggressive and find my niche on the team.
"I had talked to the Breakers earlier in the summer but we just didn't come to any sort of agreement. I was familiar with the coach and guys on the team. It was familiar. When I got cut in Croatia they called me and it seemed like a really good fit so I am excited."
He will take over point guard duties but isn't sure if that means he will go straight into the starting line-up for Friday night's clash with the Illawarra Hawks.
"That's up to the coaches," Stockton says. "My job is to play. Whatever they want to do, I am fine with.
"Coming in midway through the season] is a little bit different. You don't just come in here and do what you want to do - you really want to fit in with the team.
"We have got a lot of experienced players and they have been here a long time and won championships so I just want to follow their lead and try to make them better and myself better at the same time."
Stockton impressed with his ability to create during a stint in the D-League before he made the move to Europe and racked up a staggering 22 assists while also putting up 37 points on one occasion.
He is excited about the prospect of having so many terrific shooters to work with at the Breakers.
"These guys are great shooters and that really does make my job easier. I'm excited to get started. I don't know if I have had this many shooters before - I have played on teams with some good shooters but we will see."
