Badminton: Shirley and Quay through

Daniel Shirley and his Malaysian badminton partner have advanced to the mixed doubles quarter-finals of the five star US$250,000 ($393,762) Hong Kong Open.

Shirley and Joanne Quay easily beat Hong Kong's Koon Wai Chee and Indonesia's Putra Tanama 21-12, 21-8 in the second round yesterday.

The pair, who met for the first time the day before the tournament, will now play top seeds Zhang Jun and Gao Ling of China.
