Rain may have delayed play but it didn't stop St Peters from edging St Johns to claim the Dave Hoskin Trophy for the fifth time.

St Johns made a promising start to the match, which was reduced to 40 overs, and had their opponents scrambling at 3/35 after 10 overs.

But St Peters captain Andrew Sclater stepped up to the mark and produced an innings of 112 not out helping his side to 210/6.

St Johns quickly settled into their work, with Aidan Stevensen smashing 47 of 38 balls.

After 10 overs, St Johns were 62/1, which they extended to 83/3 after 20.

However, the St Peters bowlers came into their own - Josh Nelson (2-61) got Cameron Smith then Ben Chubb to sky shots where they were both caught by Sclater. Sclater was the man of the moment a few minutes later, pocketing another spectacular catch.

The first ball of the last over saw St Peters claim the final wicket and a nine-run victory.

In other matches, Cambridge beat Morrinsville by six wickets and Hamilton Boys High beat Matamata College by five wickets.

Tennis

St Kentigern College continue to run rampant in the Auckland boys competition.

After the weekend's round, St Kentigern lead the senior A1, intermediate A1 and junior A1 grades.

In senior A1 competition, St Kentigern beat Kings College 8-1. Auckland Grammar beat Westlake Boys 7-2 and St Kentigern 2 beat Mt Albert Grammar 8-1.

In the girls' competition, St Cuthberts lead the senior division after a 9-0 win over Diocesan.

St Kentigern beat Kings College by 9-0 and Rangitoto College beat Baradene by the same score.

Although Baradene might be struggling in the senior ranks, they lead both the intermediate A1 and the junior A1 competitions.

The Auckland Secondary Schools Champion of Champions Tournament is taking place at various locations around Auckland to find the top individual players in the senior, intermediate and junior grades.

Waterpolo

The latest round of the Auckland secondary schoolboys premier competition produced some intriguing battles, with Sacred Heart fighting back from 3-0 down to draw 4-4 with competition leaders Rangitoto and Westlake Boys also trailing their opponents Auckland Grammar before emerging 7-4 victors. Rangitoto look set to win the minor premiership. Westlake have moved into second, Sacred Heart third and Auckland Grammar fourth.

Auckland Grammar 2 made the semifinals of the plate section with a 10-4 win over Northcote to join St Kentigern, Massey and Glendowie in the race for the plate title.

Rangitoto continue to set the pace in the premier girls competition, beating Massey 10-4 in their latest match. Diocesan cleaned out Mt Roskill 16-0 and St Cuthberts moved back into third after beating Mt Albert 7-3.

Athletics

The North Harbour Schools 3000m was contested on Monday. Kesley Sabine of Rangitoto College won the intermediate girls' by more than 30 seconds.

Schoolmate Annika Fitzinger completed a double for Rangitoto in taking the junior girls' title.

Rabah Bashir of Westlake Boys led a Westlake 1, 2, 3 in the intermediate boys' and Rosmini College celebrated a junior and senior double with wins to Andrew Priestley and Vincent Bennett, respectively.
