Athletics: Barber comfy with tough road to Rio

Alana Barber has no qualms with the tough road laid out for her to qualify for Rio.

The race walker has reached the Athletics New Zealand B standard for the Olympics once in the 20km event and will aim to do it again at a World Cup race in Rome next weekend.

Barber says she's throwing all her eggs in one basket but knows once she qualifies she will be on track for a good showing.

She says once she gets the qualification standard she can concentrate on a top-12 finish at Rio.

Barber hopes competing alongside elite race walkers next week will lift her to a second B standard.

She has had physiology tests to determine how far she can go and says the tests showed she's capable of doing the A standard if conditions go her way.

Barber says it'll be a very strong field and she's doing that event to help push her to a good time.
