Australian Junior Championships, Western Australian Athletics Stadium, Perth March 8-13
New Zealand athletes came away from the Australian Junior Track & Field Champs in Perth with five titles. Hawkes Bay flyer Georgia Hulls won the sprint double at the Australian junior championships, winning the 100m in 12.07 and the 200m in a new personal best of 23.80. Briana Stephenson won the jumping double in the field, taking out the high jump in a PB 1.75m and the long jump with 5.98m as well as collecting bronze in the 100m. Maddison Wesche won the shot put with a personal best of 16.74m. Alex Haye ran a personal best 47.88 for second in the 400m. Aimee-Leigh Scott picked up bronze in the hammer throwing 47.44m.

March 9: Ethan Holman 200m 22.40 (+1.0) (2h3), Alex Haye 400m 48.62 (2h1), William Sinclair 2000m steeplechase 6:32.81 (12), Blair Pennell 3000m steeplechase 10:04.04 PB (14). Georgia Hulls 200m 24.20 (+0.4) (1h2). Megan Kikuchi 400m 57.60 (5h3), Amanda Fitisemanu 400m 57.82 (3h2), Shannon Gearey 400m 58.32 (6h1), Jemima Tennekoon 400m 59.11 (9h1).

March 10: Holman 200m 22.47 (+1.7) (8), Felix McDonald 110m hurdles 15.05 (+1.2) PB (6h1). Hulls 200m 23.80 (+1.9) PB (1), Izzy Hegan 800m 2:13.69 (3h2), Phoebe Edwards 100m hurdles 14.44 (+0.6) PB (3h2), 14.36 (+3.4) (5), Celine Pearn 400m hurdles 63.15 (2h1), Briana Stephenson HJ 1.75m PB (1), Aimee-Leigh Scott HT 47.44m (3).

Athletics Auckland Summer Series 12, Mt Smart Stadium - March 12
National under 18 champion Isaiah Priddey of Hamilton led in a strong open 3000m field in a personal best 8:29.57. A total of seven personal best times were achieved with Mitchell Small of Canterbury finishing second in 8:30.52 and Tim Stewart of Hamilton third in 8:31.32. Julia Ratcliffe a week out from winning the New Zealand title in Dunedin threw the 4kg hammer 68.59m, almost three metres further than her gold medal effort last week. Ratcliffe will have a couple of further competitions on the North Shore before heading to Europe in June to try and clinch a Rio Olympic Games qualifying performance. Anthony Nobilo had the 5kg hammer out to 60.30m. James Mortimer won the 100m in 10.96 (-1.9), but was narrowly beaten by Cameron French in the 200m. French recording 21.53 (-1.7) to Mortimer's 21.56. Veronica Torr won the women's 200m in 25.85 (-1.1).

Otago Secondary Schools Championships, Caledonian Ground - March 12
Adriana Mawhinney set records of 1.65m in the senior girls high jump and broke her own record with 11.35m (0.0) in the senior girls triple jump. Max Brown set a U/15 TJ record of 11.88m (-0.8), Jordan Hand was also over the previous record with 11.35m (-1.4). Ellie Duncan set U/16 200m record of 26.47 (+1.4) and a 400m record of 58.77. Jack East U/14 400m record of 53.83, Sam Gouverneur U/16 400m record of 51.34, Nathan Hill U/16 1500m record of 4:07.36, Gregor Findlay also under with 4:08.35. Sammy Burke S/G 3000m record of 10:14.52. Flynn Murdoch U/14 80m hurdles record of 12.20 (+0.6), Alex Brown 3000m race walk record of 17:58.65. Hamish Mears U?15 SP record of 12.97m.

Southland Secondary Schools Championships, Surrey Park - March 11
Open hammer was the highlight event with four exceeding the meet record: Emma Ryan 42.30, Dyani Shepherd Oates 41.38, Samantha Welsh 37.82 and Emma Wilson 37.77. Ryan also broke the senior shot put record with 13.12 and won senior discus (35.06). Records also to J. Senior GU15 javelin 35.81; U. Lavea BU14 shot put 13.26; A. Skerrett GU14 shot put 11.27; T Ashley GU14 discus 29.22; A. Skerrett GU14 triple jump 10.36; E. McColl GU15 triple jump 10.61; A. Chefetz BU14 1500m 4:46.32; J. Taylor BU15 1500m 4:25.0; J. McNaughton BU16 3000m 9:20.41; H. Michaels BU14 800m 2:18.46; L. McKinnel GU14 800m 2:26.35; E. McCall GU15 800m 2:24.87 and Jack Lovett-Hurst exceeded his own AWD discus (4.52) and discus (3.82) best marks. Also, Emma Hopcroft long jump 5.41 (1.7), Tim Baker 400m 51.81 and long jump 6.30 (0.6), William Swan triple jump 13.25 (3.3).
