The Ashes urn has arrived on Australian soil after leaving its English cricket home of Lord's for just the third time in 80 years.
The 10.2 cm trophy, currently held by England after their victory against Australia last year, has flown into Sydney having travelled in a special protective casein its own business class seat under tight security, news agency AAP reported today.
It will be on display at the Museum of Sydney initially before traveling around the Australian states, spending time in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Hobart as part of this summer's Ashes series, which begins in Brisbane next month.
The urn relates to The Oval test of 1882 when Australia beat England on English soil for the first time, prompting the infamous mock-obituary of English cricket in the Sporting Times.
The contents of the urn is believed to be a burnt set of bails.
