American college tennis player serves disgusting handshake after loss

We're really hoping Patrick Kypson hit the showers after losing his tennis match to J.J. Wolf. He needed to clean himself up.

Wolf, representing American college Ohio State, defeated Kypson in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in Columbus on the weekend. Both men are ranked among the top 100 college players in the country and the biggest flashpoint of their match came after the final point.

The result wasn't insignificant for Kypson. As reported by American website Deadspin, it represented his first loss as a college player for Texas A&M.

Kypson clearly didn't take his loss well and he appeared to react in the dirtiest way possible. A video posted to Twitter after Wolf wrapped up the win caught Kypson red-handed — or rather, saliva-handed — as he took the low road in what should have been a post-match display of sportsmanship.

Wolf raised his arms in triumph and acknowledged his fans, who cheered for their man. As he approached the net for the obligatory handshake, it looked like Kypson spit on — or perhaps pretended to spit on — his hand.

Wolf noticed just in time and bailed out from the standard post-match ritual, heading towards the umpire instead.

Deadspin reported Kypson didn't take part in Texas A&M's next outing against Texas Tech on Monday.

In a statement to Deadspin, Texas A&M men's tennis head coach Steve Denton said Kypson was "appropriately disciplined" for his unsportsmanlike act.

"Sportsmanship and respect are pillars of the sport of tennis and Texas A&M, and Patrick Kypson's actions at the conclusion of his match at Ohio State were counter to that," Denton said.

"He has been appropriately disciplined for his behaviour. Patrick's not only remorseful for what he did, but is acting on that to show that he learned a valuable lesson.

"We will support him in that effort. We have addressed his actions with him and with our friends at Ohio State."
