Over the years, Mitsubishi Triton has made a name for itself as a hard-working, solid and very dependable ute. It's the kind of reputation you can only earn the hard way.
The all-new Triton is set to raise the game again. Engine, efficiency, power, torque, body, interior, you name it:
everything's bigger and better. The only thing that hasn't changed is the famous 10-year warranty, and the fact that no other manufacturer can offer anything like it.
Being a ute, the first thing to do is pop the hood and talk about the engine. Mitsubishi have a talent for wringing large amounts of pull from small, efficient engines. This time, the new all-alloy DiD MIVEC 2.4L turbo diesel produces 135kW of power and a huge 437 Nm of torque on the auto models. And before you wonder how many times you'll be popping the petrol cap to pay for all the power, bear in mind that efficiency figures are between 7.0L and 7.6L across the range.
To make the most of the engine's output, there are 2 new transmissions. The 5-speed auto offers dial up range selector and sport mode with paddle shifts. Basically, sport mode lets you control the auto like a manual, but without the clutch. For quick changes on less than perfect surfaces, it's ideal. The 6-speed manual gives you absolute control of the engine and the vehicle itself. For the first time, 4WD high mode functions on or off road for ultimate grip.
New Triton is also very smooth to drive. The new engine delivers the torque smoothly at low revs and a warehouse full of traction systems keep you, a full load and a wayward trailer in line. The turning circle is class-leadingly small, so it's a breeze on tight tracks or building sites.
