As MasterChef fans will know, there are many ways to upskill your cooking using clever kitchen “hacks”. Perhaps you’ve discovered the secret to perfect poached eggs is to swirl the water around the pan, or you’ve learnt how to make a failsafe chocolate cake — on the barbecue. Maybe you’ve come up with a smart way to sneak more vegetables into your children’s bolognese.

We’ve teamed up with New World and are sharing Kiwis’ kitchen hacks — those ingenious ways in which we whip up perfection on the plate – to celebrate its new MasterChef Cookware range. Exclusively available to New World shoppers, MasterChef Cookware range has six items to choose from. These are free to shoppers who collect stickers. For instance, every $20 spent earns one sticker, so 25 stickers could be redeemed for a free Saucepan; those with a Clubcard could redeem 80 stickers for a Non-Stick Stir Fry Pan or Casserole pot, each worth $160. There are also weekly bonus products to help you collect stickers faster.

To help the cause, over the past two weeks, ZM radio hosts Bree and Clint have been busy asking their listeners for their savviest kitchen hacks, which the hosts have then put to the test in the kitchen themselves. (You can view their videos on the Bree & Clint Facebook page and TikTok channel, and for a further chance to win a $250 New World Gift Card by commenting.

Try out New World’s “hack of the week,” inspired by a ZM listeners, below.

1. Make the best roast potatoes. Chop to size, par boil then drain. Add butter and olive oil to the potatoes in the pot and shake around. Not to hard but enough shaking to break them apart a wee bit. Bake like normal. They will be crunchy and golden on outside and fluffy in the middle
2. When you are boiling a pot of water on the stove, put a wooden spoon over the top of the pot and it doesn’t boil over!
3. Next time your cooking Pasta, try popping some garlic cloves in your boiling pasta – this will add extra flavor!
