The regulated monopoly running the power grid, for example, is attractive because returns are stable and much of the investment risk is eliminated. Companies that focus on predictability of product delivery is music to an infrastructure investor’s ears. While much of the investment in energy infrastructure, for instance, has been on maintenance of networks in recent times, over the next five to 10 years power demand is expected to grow by between three to five per cent. This represents a huge shift both for infrastructure companies moving from being caretakers to investors and people who are thinking about what they need to invest in.
