Aucklanders can now view their council's performance in a number of important roles at a glance, thanks to a new initiative.
The Progress Snapshot is designed for citizens to see how the council is performing across a wide range of areas such as transport and finances, and serviceslike libraries and parks.
Chief Executive Stephen Town says the Progress Snapshot is part of an ongoing commitment by the council to greater transparency: "Aucklanders have told us they want more visibility of what the council is doing to improve its performance and deliver the services that matter most to them.
"This is just one of the ways we are making it easier to do so. People will see where we are performing better than expected - as well as areas where we need to improve and how we are working to improve them.
"The snapshot also shows the enormous breadth of services delivered by council and its CCOs, from public transport to recycling through to water supply, animal management, building consents and graffiti removal. There is virtually no area of life in Auckland that council services don't touch in some way."
Some of the key numbers from 2016 show that so far this year: • 15.5million library items have been borrowed • 95 per cent of all public transport journeys have been on time • 27 per cent of all household rubbish was diverted from a landfill and into recycling • 94 per cent of unplanned water shutdowns were restored in under five hours • The council saved $41m by delivering services and other activities more efficiently
The snapshot will be refined based on feedback to ensure that it's relevant and useful for Aucklanders. You can find out more about this, and the goals in the 3-year Performance Plan, at www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/progresssnapshot.
