Making phone calls to friends and family has become a bit of a lost habit, as 2degrees GM Marketing Dave Pearce tells Ryan Bridge on Herald NOW Business. To encourage people to pick up their phones and call someone they care about, 2degrees has developed a playful take on wearable tech. Ring Ring is a thumb ring with one ‘smart’ feature: the phone number of someone you care about engraved on it - a simple reminder to stop scrolling on autopilot and make the call instead.

Nearly 60% of Kiwis say there’s someone in their life they wish they called more often, and 77% say they feel meaningfully better after a phone call with someone close to them. Yet when we pick up our phones with a spare moment, we’re far more likely to scroll social media, check the news or play a game.

Through its Fairer Phones Project, 2degrees is encouraging Kiwis to use their phones in ways that feel more meaningful as part of our commitment to promote healthier, safer, fairer behaviours amongst all phone user.
