Organisational Development Manager Jo Nicol says Fletcher Building recognises the importance of growing great people which is why it has created a Learning Council to oversee training and leadership programmes and a Learning Academy to deliver customised programmes designed for Fletcher Building businesses.
"The Learning Academy provides health and safety, manufacturing excellence and management and leadership training programmes to thousands of Fletcher Building employees each year. In 2015 we are on track to invest approximately $6 million in training and developing our people."
The Learning Academy has three levels of management training programmes which have been customised for Fletcher Building businesses and aim to help managers be better leaders, make better decisions and make bottom-line contributions to business from first time supervisors and team leaders through to our most senior people.
The award-winning Leaders' Edge programme is for senior managers. This programme was awarded a silver by the European Foundational for Management Development ahead of other heavy weights in business education.
Jo Nicol says this programme was developed by Fletcher Building and the Business School at the University of Auckland in response to the Global Financial Crisis. It helps participants cope with change and ambiguity to make good business decisions. The programme gives participants access to thought-leaders, industry experts and business mentors who provide real-time support to solving real business issues. Each team is coached through challenges to solve real business issues and make a positive impact on the bottom line.
The learnings from this programme have influenced a new graduate leadership development programme that will see an initial intake of 10 new graduates employed at Fletcher Building for a two year programme with an expanded graduate intake planned for 2015.
Jo Nicol says Fletcher Building is committed to investing in its employees from new graduates through to senior managers. "Our vision is building better together and we believe all employees can make a difference."
