With the Iran war continuing to create volatility in global markets, the New Zealand market is looking attractive to invest in right now, as Forsyth Barr investment strategist Aaron Ibbotson tells Ryan Bridge in this Herald NOW Business segment. Although the New Zealand market is boring, boring is good as it has a lot of strong, stable infrastructure companies. The key in volatile times is, if possible, to ignore global events, stay the course and capture the enormous benefits of long-term investing - the market corrects down every two years by around 10% and up to 25% every six or seven years anyway. So far, markets have taken the events in Iran calmly, although with escalatory remarks coming from both the Trump administration and Iran over the weekend, something needs to make the war end in the not-too-distant future.
