After 44 years the owners of Awa Nursery have decided to retire and sell their nursery business in northwest Auckland and the land it occupies.
The 9.2718ha freehold site includes the nursery and a modern four-bedroom home with two bathrooms, two living areas and an adjoining double garage.
Business brokerKevin Stevens, of NAI Harcourts North Shore Commercial, says the property, at 84 Mahana Rd, Waimauku, is available for sale by negotiation.
"This highly profitable lifestyle business is offered as a going concern, with an annual revenue of more than $3.5 million in 2017 last year expected to top $4 million for 2018.
Stevens says Awa Nursery offers both a sound income, plus a lifestyle opportunity.
"A business with this a particular combination is very hard to purchase within easy distance of central Auckland.
"This is a well-established, successful and growing nursery with an excellent customer base and knowledgeable employees," he says.
The nursery business has a staff of 19, including an experienced nursery sales manager and a nursery production manager, both having a thorough understanding of every aspect of the business.
Other staff include a production team of 11 and a sales team of six.
The nursery team grows more than 80 per cent of the plants sold on site, which separates the business out from traditional garden centres. The remainder of the stock sold is made up of large trees purchased from other nurseries. Small plants are also bought from nurseries specialising in these species.

"The team in place for the business works extremely well together, and the in-depth knowledge of its members is a huge asset to the business," says Stevens.
The owners bought the property in 1974 - establishing a market garden specialising in the production of celery and parsley. That business grew substantially and was later sold, allowing the owners to concentrate on developing a nursery.
Subsequently, trade has grown steadily for 18 years and it is now open seven days a week, from 8.30am to 5pm.
"The longtime success of Awa Nursery has been due to its outstanding core values with both owners and staff priding themselves on the on quality of the plants and trees they sell.
"They have a loyal base of returning customers, made up of members of the public as well as developers and landscape gardeners," says Stevens.
"Opportunities like this seldom come to market. Effectively the offer is to purchase a highly regarded business, having excellent systems, well-trained staff and ideal living accommodation on-site."
